What you should know before you trust us with your portfolio

Sophisticated investors trust transparency over polish. This page is how Atlas earns it. Everything below is current as of April 2026; if it goes stale, ping us.

Who runs Atlas

Atlas is built and operated by a single founder, Matt Shippey, in public. There is no team page because there is no team — yet. That is a feature, not a bug: every product decision is made by someone who actually uses the tool to manage his own portfolio at Merrill Edge.

The company is fully bootstrapped. No outside capital, no growth-at-all-costs incentives, no pressure to ship features that look good in a deck but make the product worse. Atlas will be profitable on subscription revenue or it will not exist — there is no third option where it gets sold to a brokerage and your data goes with it.

Where your data lives

  • Primary store: Redis on Vercel (us-east-1), encrypted in transit and at rest. Portfolio uploads, theses, and tax-lot history live here.
  • Authentication: Clerk. We never see your password.
  • Market data:Polygon.io for prices and fundamentals; Yahoo Finance fallback for symbols Polygon doesn’t cover.
  • AI:Anthropic (Claude Opus and Sonnet) for the Brief, What-If, Devil’s Advocate, and parsing flows. Anthropic does not train on your data.
  • Email: Resend for password resets and transactional notifications. No marketing emails are sent without explicit opt-in.

We do not sell, share, or rent your data to anyone. Ever. The full policy lives at /privacy.

What you can export and delete

  • Every position, thesis, and tax lot is exportable as CSV from the dashboard.
  • Account deletion (Account → Danger Zone) wipes all stored data within 24 hours and is irreversible.
  • We retain only what is necessary to run the product. We do not keep shadow copies for “analytics.”

What Atlas is not

Atlas is not a broker-dealer, not a registered investment adviser, and not a custodian of your assets. It is a read-only analytics layer over data you upload. We cannot place trades, transfer money, or access your brokerage. Tools that calculate tax, RMDs, or options pricing are observational — outputs of math on your assumptions, not advice.

See the full disclaimer.

Reliability and posture

  • Hosted on Vercel (Fluid Compute) and Anthropic infrastructure. Both have uptime SLAs above 99.9%; Atlas inherits that ceiling.
  • No on-call rotation, no PagerDuty. Atlas is a single founder answering email. If something breaks during US market hours, it gets attention within the hour.
  • We will publish real uptime numbers once we have 12 months of data. Anything sooner would be marketing dressed as transparency.

How Atlas makes money

Subscription revenue, period. We do not take payment for order flow, sell research to issuers, accept inducements from fund companies, or run affiliate links to brokerages. The customer is the customer.

The pricing logic is on /value: one avoided wash sale or one well-timed harvest pays for the subscription many times over. If it doesn’t, you should cancel.
